Dr. S.K. Kanawjia is presently working as Emeritus Scientist (Formerly Principal Scientist), Dairy Technology Division, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. He did post graduation (Dairy Technology) from University of Allahabad. Later he did PhD in Dairy Technology from Kurukshetra University (NDRI) and Post Doctoral Research from Cornell University, USA.

His areas of expertise are Cheese Technology, Fermented foods, Paneer Technology, Value added products and health/functional foods. His research and teaching contributions include 40 projects, 26 technologies/ processes developed and have guided 22 M. Tech (DT) and12 PhD students. He has to his credit several publications, 220 research/technical papers, 40 book/book chapters, 2 monographs, 140 research paper abstracts, 130 presentations and 6 patent applications filed.

Dr. Kanawjia has several awards and distinctions to his credit, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai memorial prize-1988-89, Best Teacher Award-2014, IDA best research paper award-1998, AFST (I) Best research poster award-2004, K.U. Patel memorial award 2004, AFST(I) Best research poster presentation award-2005, DTSI Best research poster presentation award -2006 and NBGR Silver Jubilee First Best paper presentation Award-2009.Best PhD thesis Award-2014,Best oral presentation award (IIFANS), at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, IISMAAS), at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Best poster presentation Award-NIFTEM, Best Poster award (IDA)-2014,Bagged First prize-Anveshan of North Zone-2015.

During his professional career he has upgraded his knowledge and experience by various trainings, Foundation course training, National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad (AP), Advanced training in Education Biotechnology under FAO/AHRD programme at Department of Food Science, Cornell University, Ithaca (NY) USA, short course on Membrane and its applications, Department of Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, HACCP (hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) Lead Auditor Training Course, SGS India Ltd.

He is life member of various professional bodies including Indian Science Congress, Indian Dairy Association, Fellow, National Academy of Dairy Science, Association of Food Scientists and Technologists, India, Dairy Technology Society of India, Probiotic Association of India, Indian Society of Sheep and Goat Production and Utilization, New York Academy of Sciences, USA and Indian Dairy Engineers Association and International Dairy Federation, group A-7. Dr. Kanawjia is also an expert member, National Commission of International Dairy Federation of Dairy Foods.
