Mr. Animesh Banerjee has contributed immensely, as a senior member of the implementing organizations, across multiple areas of the agribusiness, dairy & food production and processing sectors, over four decades. He was instrumental, under the leadership of Dr. V. Kurien the architected of the ‘White Revolution in India’, in establishing several rural institutions that leveraged commodities as a tool for socio-economic development of the small & marginal farmers as well as landless labourers; the cascading effect of which had empowered millions under privileged in India. He has been advising presently the dairy and food sectors, in India as well as undertook several consultancy assignments in different countries abroad. He is credited with the establishment of around 100 dairy/allied food processing units.

Mr. Banerjee is a Chemical Engineer by profession and started his career with the Food sector in a multinational British Company, dealing with the establishment of the food, dairy & allied processing plants, globally. Subsequently, he joined a premier institution, in India-National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), to steer its core activities initially and rose finally to the policy level as its Executive Director in the Board of management of the NDDB. Other the NDDB, he was also a member in the Board of management of the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI); the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Ltd (NCDFI); the National Cooperative Union of India Ltd. (NCUI); the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Besides, he was a member of the Quinquennial Review Team and research Advisory Council of NDRI. He was the member of the Food and Agriculture Division Council (FADC) of the Bureau of Indian Standards and a member of the Appellate Authority on Export Inspection of Milk Products, Government of India.

Mr. Banerjee was the elected President of the Indian Dairy Association, the apex association of the Indian dairy sector, for three consecutive terms totaling to 11 years. Besides, he was a member of the Indian National Committee of the International Dairy Federation; Chairman of the Editorial Board of the two leading journals i.e. Indian Journal of Dairy Science (IJDS) and the Indian Dairyman (ID). To his credit he has published several articles, on the different aspects, including policy issues, connected with the dairy and food processing sectors, which have been highly acclaimed, both in India and abroad.

He has been a member of the Policy Advisory Group (PAG) of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad as well as Visiting Faculty in the Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA). He has been the Chairperson of the Dairy Sub-group of the 9th, 10th & 11th Five Year Plan as well as an advisor in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Govt. of India.

Presently, Mr. Banerjee is the honorary Chairperson of the Agro-Vision 2020 (Milk Panel) of the Technology Information & Forecasting Council (TIFAC), Dept. of Science & technology, Govt. of India.
